Manchester United’s John Cofie joins Belgian side Antwerp on loan.

DONE DEAL: Manchester United have confirmed that John Cofie has joined Belgian side Antwerp on loan.

A tall and very powerful centre-forward with a keen eye for goal, John Cofie is a very bright prospect indeed.

Cofie joined United from Burnley after a host of top clubs had shown an interest in signing him. Born in Aboso, Ghana, Cofie is eligible to play for three national sides – Ghana, Germany and England, but has chosen the latter and has been regularly called up for international duty at youth level just like his United team mate Danny Welbeck (also from Ghana).

Cofie will turn 19 in 8 days time. His strength and pace are two of his main assets and he has already put them to good use as he has impressed for Paul McGuinness’ Under-18s side.

Cofie made his first tentative steps into United’s youth team in the 2008/09 campaign, before more regular involvement in 2009/10.  John signed professional forms with United on 1 July 2010. In the 2010/11 campaign he had a prolific scoring rate for the U18s and Reserves before a knee injury hampered his season.

Returning towards the end of the successful FA Youth Cup-winning campaign, he started scoring regularly for the Reserves during the pre-season in 2011.
