Schalke legend Asamoah joins Bundesliga 2. side

Schalke legend Gerald Asamoah is going to try his luck in the Bundesliga 2. The 33 year old striker hopes to fire his new side Greuther Furth to glory by scoring goals.

The 43-times capped German international has been without a club since June 2011 because his contract at FC St. Pauli (relegated from the Bundesliga last season),who are currently 4th in the Bundesliga 2. ,was not extended. The player born in Mampong,Ghana  has a contract with Greuther Furth till the summer of 2013. His team  team are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga 2. Asamoah’s goals and experience will earn the team a place in next season’s Bundesliga.

Asamoah played for Hannover 96 between 1996 and 1999 before he moved to Schalke to play eleven seasons for the team based in Gelsenkirchen .The striker scored 44 goals in 279 games for Die Königsblauen (The Royal Blues) t. He won the German DFB Pokal twice.

League leaders Fortuna Dusseldorf have 42 points in the Bundesliga 2. Greuther Fürth is the closest challenger with forty points, one point more than Eintracht Frankfurt, St. Pauli and Paderborn.
