Annan 2 Quansah 0 in the Eredivisie

Anthony Annan’s Vitesse Arnhem beat Kwame Quansah’s Heracles Almelo 2-0 in the Eredivisie on Friday night.Wilfried Bony (Ivory Coast) scored the first goal of the game but missed a penalty later on.

Vitesse coach John van den Brom started the game with the same eleven players who played last week’s game.Wilfried Bony scored the first goal of the game after 22 minutes from a  Marco van Ginkel assist.Bony has scored the first goal in a game for the 6th time this season.Only Malki (Roda) and Dost (Heerenveen) have done that more times: 7.

Kwame Quansah did not have one of his best games as he lost possession resulting in Remko Pasveer bringing down Renato Ibarra in the penalty box.Referee Reinold Wiedemeijer sent the goalkeeper off and Vitesse were awarded a penalty. Remko Pasveer received Heracles’ 25th red card of the season. Martin Pieckenhagen was the first Heracles player to be sent off this season.

Kwame Quansah and Van Ginkel

Dennis Telgenkamp replaced the keeper and the first thing he had to do was to save Bony’s penalty. Bony missed it.Vitesse has missed 3 penalties this season, one less than the club record in the  78/79, 79/80 and 01/02 seasons. The very impressive winger Ibarra,my man of the match made it 2-0 for Vitesse in the 67th minute. It was the Ecuadorian’s first goal of the season.

We might see Annan in the Europa League next season (if he stays at Vitesse) .Vitesse has 41 points after 26 games. Quansah’s Heracles Almelo has 30 points (12th).Vitesse has won 3 consecutive  Eredivisie games this season. The last time they did that was  April-May 2009. They won 4 successive games that season.

Al Ain’s new loan signing is a twitter freak. Socceringhana (@Foetbal247) has been following his twitter account (@ASAMOAH_GYAN) for some time now.Gyan is ranked the Ghanaian footballer with the highest number of followers on twitter with 70,971 followers. He is Ghana’s Twitter King.

SAFC fan’s ive seen your messages the good and the bad, its only a one year loan. Good luck for today’s match. – (@ASAMOAH_GYAN) via Twitter

@ASAMOAH_GYAN your welcome back anytime good luck at al-ain !

Not every Gyan follower on twitter was happy with his loan move from Sunderland to Al –Ain. The tweets that the attacker sent to the world were not received well by most of the Sunderland faithfuls. Most of the Sunderland fans called him a traitor. Who or what exactly he betrayed appears unclear. Who does not want to be progress in life? Benoit-Assou Ekoto would have done the same thing (he plays football for the money not the passion).  Sunderland’s jewel’s performances had been below par early on in the season and I realized something was not right somewhere. Gyan was not happy and he had had enough.  Sunderland was struggling to even draw games. He wanted to leave .His strike partner Darren Bent had left for Villa and Welbeck had gone back to Manchester. After losing 2-1 to Chelsea early on in the season, Bruce told reporters: “He’s been unsettled now, if we are being brutally honest, for weeks and months.

It was just time for something different, for the next step. Chairman Niall Quinn emphasised the financial benefits of the deal for both Sunderland and the player.  It was the best for both parties; Gyan receiving up to four times his previous salary. His move from UK to UAE took many people by surprise.

Former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce did not expect the club’s record signing to return to the club after the Ghana international completed the loan move to Al Ain but the new coach Martin O’Neill wants the lad back.

“I will leave people to make their own conclusions about that but it baffles me how he can leave the best league in the world to go and play on the other side of the world. No disrespect to Abu Dhabi or wherever he has gone, but I find it really baffling.”-Steve Bruce

To Billy re,sunderland echo, i will be back at SAFC very soon and whenever im in da uk, i will sign ur top 4 u. Pls dont be upset. God bless-(@ASAMOAH_GYAN) via Twitter

Dont want to see any child upset over me. I have a child so i know what its like -(@ASAMOAH_GYAN) via Twitter

Gyan stayed true to his word to meet up with his biggest fan who was upset over his move from Sunderland to Al Ain. Gyan upset five-year-old Billy Ellison, who had got his name printed on his Sunderland shirt just days before the Al Ain move.

When Gyan heard the story of Billy’s disappointment he wrote on Twitter how bad he felt for Billy. Gyan invited Billy, along with his dad, to Ghana’s friendly international with Nigeria.

Really looking forward to seeing Billy and his family on the 11th october at the Ghana V Nja match at Watford stadium. See u soon Billy-(@ASAMOAH_GYAN) via Twitter

@ASAMOAH_GYAN that thing about Billy broke me. I hope your back at #SAFC very soon, forget the haters I’d welcome you back

Rivals Ghana and Nigeria battled out a goalless draw in October’s international friendly at Vicarage Road. The game was a very boring one.Ghana made three changes at the start of the second half, including bringing on star striker Asamoah Gyan.Gyan had his first chance to impress when Pantstil burst forward from right-back and crossed, but the striker headed over.
Ghana has to work on its goal scoring department if the team wants to lift the trophy in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea next month. So when are we going to get a ‘Demba Ba’ or a ‘Samuel Eto’o’?

Asamoah Gyan is Ghana’s most ‘prolific’ (least misfiring striker in Ghana) goalscorer, scoring a goal every 2 games. Ghana’s twitter king’s goals  will play a very key role in ensuring that Ghana end their 30-year AFCON  drought.

The musician cum footballer has become the most popular entertainer in the country winning back to back awards with his main man Castro the Destroyer. Last year, the 25-year-old made all the headlines scoring three  goals during the Ghana Black Stars progression into the quarter-finals. I don’t want to talk about the Suarez thing.

Last month Gyan received an award for the Best African Sports Personality from the charity organisation, Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards for his outstanding sporting achievements as a Ghanaian based in the UK.

The striker beat the likes of  Yaya Toure ,Drogba and Osaze Odemwengie to clinch the title.Gyan’s very good friend and ex teammate, Anton Ferdinand, was the first to congratulate him.

The Glo ambassador has been appointed as Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador by the Ministry of Tourism. He is expected to use his influence as a renowned international footballer cum musician to promote Ghana.

The dancing striker also won this year’s Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) faward, sports personality of the year.

Big thank you to Ghana’s tourism minister Akua Sena Dansua 4 making me the Ambassador 4 tourism 4 our motherland Ghana – (@ASAMOAH_GYAN) via Twitter

Dubai is hot! I thought Ghana was hot chale monko!

Asamoah Gyan’s outstanding form in the UAE continued on Thursday when he scored twice for Al Ain to beat Al Jazira 3-1 in the top-of-the-table clash. The two goals helped Al Ain to open a four-point lead at the top.Al Ain are the only unbeaten team left in the league, four points ahead of champions Jazira.Gyan is now the leading scorer in the UAE league after scoring 13 goals in 12 matches.

I just pray the heat doesn’t kill him.

Draw at Kwadwo’s Udinese denies Juve top spot

Juventus missed the chance to return to the summit of Serie A after being held to a goalless draw at title rivals Udinese.
Udinese looked sharper after the break and Buffon was the busier of the two keepers, with our own Kwadwo Asamoah and Antonio Di Natale both seeing efforts saved in the second period. But the best save of the half belonged to Handanovic, who kept out Fabio Quagliarella’s low 83rd-minute shot with a full-stretch save.
Emmanuel Badu Agyemang is still recovering from last week’s injury. We pray he recovers in time for the 2012 AFCON.

Andre Morgan Ayew named BBC African Footballer of 2011

Ghanaian football star Andre Ayew has won the 2011 BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

The 21 year-old midfielder, who plays for French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille, was the overwhelming winner ahead of Yaya Toure, Gervinho, Samuel Eto’o and Seydou Keita. Ayew who turns 22 tomorrow played an integral role in Marseille’s French League and Super Cup feat. This is a very big birthday present for Andre.

He follows in the footsteps of his father, Abedi “Pele” Ayew, who won the inaugural BBC award in 1991. “I’m honoured and surprised to receive this prestigious award, especially considering the great players who have won it in the past,” said Ayew.

“I thank all the people who voted for me – in Ghana, in Africa and in the world.”I’m going to work hard to show them they made a good choice.”

The BBC award takes into account the football calendar from January to December 2011 and includes domestic leagues, both the Uefa and Caf Champions League tournaments. Andre becomes the fifth Ghanaian to win after his father, Sammy Kuffour (2001), Michael Essien (2006) and last year’s winner Asamoah Gyan.
