I CAN’T DO WITHOUT NANA ASARE

Asare is like a brother to me.The first time we met  at FC Utrecht we had this bond.We are both Africans, have gone through almost the same things, know how it feels like leaving your family behind to start a career in Europe.Outside football,Nana [Asare] and I are always together,we are both bachelors. We go out to eat together very often. We’ve got a strong passion for food. We’ve visited almost every restaurant in Utrecht. We always help each other.- Jacob Mulenga

Manchester United’s John Cofie joins Belgian side Antwerp on loan.

DONE DEAL: Manchester United have confirmed that John Cofie has joined Belgian side Antwerp on loan.

A tall and very powerful centre-forward with a keen eye for goal, John Cofie is a very bright prospect indeed.

Cofie joined United from Burnley after a host of top clubs had shown an interest in signing him. Born in Aboso, Ghana, Cofie is eligible to play for three national sides – Ghana, Germany and England, but has chosen the latter and has been regularly called up for international duty at youth level just like his United team mate Danny Welbeck (also from Ghana).

Cofie will turn 19 in 8 days time. His strength and pace are two of his main assets and he has already put them to good use as he has impressed for Paul McGuinness’ Under-18s side.

Cofie made his first tentative steps into United’s youth team in the 2008/09 campaign, before more regular involvement in 2009/10.  John signed professional forms with United on 1 July 2010. In the 2010/11 campaign he had a prolific scoring rate for the U18s and Reserves before a knee injury hampered his season.

Returning towards the end of the successful FA Youth Cup-winning campaign, he started scoring regularly for the Reserves during the pre-season in 2011.

GPL 2011-2012 REVIEW :BECHEM UNITED FC

Peter Ofori-Quaye

List of scorers

  • Richard Addai 4
  • Peter Essien 3
  • Eric Fordjour 1
  • Peter Ofori-Quaye 1

Lowly Bechem United FC has 11 points from 14 games (14th).There are several interesting players in the team, Princebell Addico (17) is a lanky central midfielder. Central defender Bismark Yaw Osei, right-winger Peter Essien and left-back Rashid Abdul are definitely good enough for this level. In Richard Addai (25) and Peter Ofori Quaye the club has experienced frontmen who know what it’s all about.

Record:Ofori-Quaye is known for being the youngest player ever to have scored in the UEFA Champions League. He was just 17 years and 194 days old when he scored for Olympiacos against Rosenborg on 1 October 1997.

Strugglers Bechem United managed to hold Hearts of Oak to a pulsating 0-0 draw on Wednesday. The ‘Phobians’ had hope to up the pressure on joint leaders Kotoko with a win but failed to score despite dominating in midfield.Bechem United had scanty scoring opportunities to threaten Sammy Adjei’s goal but the few times they did, the experienced glovesman showed great agility to deny the hosts.Peter Essien came closer to scoring for Bechem United but saw his effort expertly palmed away by Sammy Adjei just before the break.

James Papa Yaw also had the chance to test goalkeeper Adjei but he fired wide and high.Bechem United could have found themselves ahead on 80 minutes but Godfred Fosu who was played through by Essien tripped and stumbled in front of Sammy Adjei who grabbed the rolling ball.Bechem United has scored  only 10 goals this season.
